The Freedom Bengaluru Half Marathon 2026 (FBHM) marked a significant milestone in Karnataka’s growing running culture, bringing together thousands of runners in a celebration of endurance, fitness, and community spirit. Held on 24 May 2026 along the scenic stretch of NICE Road near Hosakerehalli Tollgate in Bengaluru, the second edition of the event successfully transformed an ordinary Sunday morning into a vibrant festival of health and determination. Organised by Kalki Sports India and presented by Freedom Healthy Cooking Oil, the marathon continued its mission of encouraging people from all walks of life to embrace an active lifestyle while challenging themselves to achieve new personal milestones. Building on the success of its inaugural edition, the 2026 race expanded its vision with the introduction of the prestigious 21.1-kilometre Half Marathon, officially elevating the event into a full-fledged half marathon. This addition attracted experienced runners from across Karnataka and neighbouring states while simultaneously encouraging first-time participants to become part of Bengaluru’s rapidly growing running community.
The event witnessed an overwhelming response, with over 6,000 participants taking part across the 21.1K Half Marathon, 10K Timed Run, and 5K Timed Run categories. From elite athletes chasing podium finishes to corporate teams promoting workplace wellness, fitness enthusiasts, recreational runners, and families, the marathon reflected the inclusive spirit of modern road running. The excitement began well before sunrise as participants assembled at the venue in the cool early morning hours. The atmosphere was charged with anticipation, music, and energy as a lively Zumba warm-up session commenced at 5:00 AM, helping runners loosen up before the races began. The collective enthusiasm of thousands of participants stretching, dancing, and preparing together created an unforgettable spectacle that perfectly captured the community spirit of the event. The 21.1-kilometre Half Marathon, which started at 6:00 AM, became the highlight of the day. With a generous cut-off time of 240 minutes, the category welcomed runners determined to conquer one of the most respected distances in road racing. Open to participants aged 18 years and above, the half marathon offered both seasoned athletes and dedicated amateurs an opportunity to test months of disciplined preparation and endurance. Following the flagship race, the 10-kilometre Timed Run began at 6:30 AM, catering to intermediate runners seeking speed and personal best performances. Open to participants aged 14 years and above, the race featured a 120-minute cut-off, making it both competitive and accessible. Many young athletes, college students, and corporate runners chose this category as the perfect balance between endurance and speed.
The final event of the morning, the 5-kilometre Timed Run, started at 7:00 AM and welcomed participants aged 10 years and above. Designed for beginners, families, school students, and recreational runners, the 5K served as an entry point into organised road racing. The 90-minute cut-off ensured that runners of varying fitness levels could comfortably complete the course while enjoying the festive atmosphere. What distinguished FBHM from many conventional races was its emphasis on delivering a complete race-day experience rather than focusing solely on competition. Every participant received a professionally designed timed race bib, a premium dry-fit event T-shirt, a race bag, and a beautifully crafted finisher’s medal, symbolising the completion of their chosen distance. Hydration stations strategically positioned along the route, together with medical assistance and physiotherapy support, ensured that runners remained safe and well-supported throughout the event.
Upon crossing the finish line, participants were welcomed with a nutritious post-race hot breakfast, refreshments, and recovery facilities that encouraged runners to celebrate their achievements while reconnecting with fellow participants. Every finisher also received an electronic timing certificate, while professionally captured race photographs were made available free of charge, allowing runners to preserve memories of their accomplishment. Competition remained an important aspect of the marathon, with attractive cash prizes motivating elite athletes across both men’s and women’s divisions. In the 21.1K Half Marathon, winners in both categories received ₹15,000, while the first and second runners-up earned ₹11,000 and ₹7,000 respectively. The 10K Timed Run offered prize money of ₹11,000, ₹7,000, and ₹5,000 for the top three finishers in both men’s and women’s categories. The 5K Timed Run, although designed primarily to encourage participation, also recognised outstanding performances through goodie bags for the top three finishers, alongside trophies presented to winners across various age categories. These awards reinforced the organisers’ commitment to celebrating achievement at every level rather than focusing exclusively on elite competition. FBHM also acknowledged excellence across different age groups, ensuring that runners competing against peers within similar age brackets had the opportunity to earn recognition. Categories generally included 18–30 years, 31–45 years, 46–60 years, and 61 years & above for the Half Marathon, with similar age divisions adapted appropriately for the 10K and 5K events. This inclusive structure enabled participants of all generations to compete meaningfully while encouraging lifelong participation in fitness.
One of the defining features of the Freedom Bengaluru Half Marathon is its philosophy that success extends beyond podium finishes. The event promotes the belief that every participant who trains consistently, overcomes personal challenges, and reaches the finish line is a winner. This approach has helped build a welcoming environment where first-time runners feel just as celebrated as experienced athletes chasing medals and prize money.
Open to participants aged 18 years and above, the half marathon offered both seasoned athletes and dedicated amateurs an opportunity to test months of disciplined preparation and endurance.
The event was proudly presented by Freedom Healthy Cooking Oil, whose association reflected a shared commitment to healthier lifestyles and preventive wellness. Through the campaign slogan #RunBeyondLimits, the organisers encouraged participants to embrace running as a sustainable habit rather than merely a one-day sporting event. The partnership highlighted the growing awareness that nutrition, physical activity, and mental resilience together contribute to long-term well-being.
Behind the successful organisation stood Kalki Sports India, a community-driven sports company founded on a passion for running and grassroots fitness development. Over the years, Kalki Sports has focused on creating professionally managed endurance events that combine international race standards with a welcoming community atmosphere. Their vision extends beyond organising races to building a stronger culture of health, consistency, and personal growth through sport.
Preparation for race day included a dedicated Bib Expo held on 23 May 2026, where participants collected their race kits between 10:00 AM and 6:00 PM. The expo served not only as a distribution centre but also as an opportunity for runners to connect with fellow participants, interact with organisers, and build excitement ahead of race day. In keeping with international marathon practices, bib collection was restricted to the expo, ensuring smooth race-day operations. The choice of NICE Road as the race venue once again proved ideal for hosting a large-scale running event. Its wide carriageways, controlled traffic environment, and long uninterrupted stretches provided participants with a safe and enjoyable racing experience while allowing organisers to maintain efficient race management and spectator movement. Beyond medals, certificates, and prize money, the Freedom Bengaluru Half Marathon has emerged as a celebration of perseverance, discipline, and community. It inspires individuals to step outside their comfort zones, pursue healthier lifestyles, and experience the satisfaction that comes from months of preparation culminating in a single memorable morning. Every participant—whether completing their first 5K, setting a new personal best in the 10K, or conquering the demanding 21.1-kilometre distance—became part of a larger movement dedicated to self-improvement and collective inspiration. As the finish-line celebrations concluded and thousands proudly wore their medals home, FBHM 2026 once again demonstrated that road running in Bengaluru is evolving into far more than a competitive sport. It has become a movement that unites communities, promotes wellness, and encourages people of every age and background to discover their potential through running. With its successful second edition setting new benchmarks in participation, organisation, and athlete experience, the Freedom Bengaluru Half Marathon has firmly established itself as one of Karnataka’s premier annual running events and a powerful symbol of the city’s enduring passion for fitness, resilience, and the spirit of running beyond limits.
